| Post subject: | How do YOU store your tonewood? |
So I was trying to pick up and organize a little since I've got such a mess and I'm starting to get a collection of wood. I decided it would probably be best to sticker my sets and have them somewhat organized. So I cleaned off a shelf and stacked em up. I was wondering how does everyone else store their wood? Show me your stash!

That is heaven! I could just live in your wood locker! My little modest pile is embarrassing, but I'm working on it  doubt I'll ever get to where you are though.

The first guy that posted a reply has more tonewood than I would ever be able to use in a lifetime. You're right, that is my kind of heaven. I thought I was a wood hoarder. |

Sticker for a while (up to a year, sort of depends on what the wood is) and then stack in a room with fairly constant humidity and temp. |

For anyone else who stickers your wood, do you have any sort of sytem for keeping sets getting mixed up with other sets? Like spruce for instance they all look very similar, what is your system for keeping the two halves from getting mixed up with others? |

I write the month and year on it and if I have two sets with the same month/year i write set1 or set2. Its no dewey decimal system but I guess itll work.So anyone else gonna share pics of your wood lockers?? I like seeing people's collections. Its like seeing fine art

Here's a little rack I made from scraps to hold around a dozen tops. Gotta get around to making one for the backs and sides. I wanted something to hang on the wall, as my little work space inside is about 1.7m x 2.2m....For now the rest is stacked on top

Right, pictures! It's the old house, so it's all moved and looks more impressive now that it's on three Ikea shelves (and desirous of a few more, if I'm honest) and (for the big boards) outdoors in the unheated shop, but you can get the gist. As for keeping sets together, write on them (month and year I get them in) for everything, and just make sure you stack and re-stack carefully. Not that hard. Outdoor boards. Below the bench = pomelle bubinga, african mahogany, spanish cedar. Above the bench = smaller stuff and 1" and 1.5" honduran mahogany boards. Above the door = more african mahogany.  Indoor stash. Acoustic back/side sets, couple of billets, bunch of fingerboards:  Tops, some maple:  Bracewood, lots of it. Underneath (hidden) are blocks of black limba, honduran mahogany.  Not pictured: 6 boards of (white) Limba, several tops, resawn claro walnut back/side sets, bunch more fingerboards and several rosewood billets for necks. |

I don't sticker anything unless it is wet, or I intend to use it within the next few months. All of my wood is stacked on a plastic shelving unit from Home Depot. Also, all of my wood is in an unheated garage with no AC in the summer. My wood truly is seasoning. Storing everything in a 45%RH, climate controlled environment is great when you are preparing it to use, but for some reason it is stuck in my head that the wood should be exposed to the temperature swings of summer to winter, which, where I live in the north east, can range from 9*F where it was last week, to 95* F in the summer. |

So does your rule mean it needs to be stickered according to thickness? If its 1" thick it's stickered a year, 1/2" is 6 months, and so on, regardless of length and width?? |

Actually, since my waiting list is over a year long, It is pretty easy to let people pick the wood and then sticker it. I only had an issue with the giveaway guitar, since I shoe horned that into my schedule. But, I stickered that wood with a fan blowing on it to make sure it was good and dry. It is. |
