Post subject:  Body Size and Case Clearance

I saw an add for a sale on cases, so I checked it out since I will be needing some along. These will be the first I've bought, for my first two guitars. Both are parlors from the Scott Antes plan.

So, when looking at cases, I have a question: Are there some generally accepted guidelines for body dimensions? I see cases listed for O, OO, OOO, OM, etc. Mine is a parlor, where does it fit in this scheme?

And, how much clearance is acceptable in a good fitting case? I would imagine you would want a nice tight fit, but the body on my first one is on the small side.

Most cases I buy are from places like Musicians Friend. I am talking about buy for my personal use, not for others, like a customer.
But most of the places I buy from give the internal dimensions. Lower and upper bouts, body length, etc. If the place you're ordering from gives these dimensions, you should be able to judge the fit. If not, I can definitely see your problem.
As far as how tight of a fit, I would think you'd want to make certain it doesn't bounce around in the case too much, but I have had cases so tight I could hear the air rushing out along the sides and literally feel the pressure of the air behind the guitar as I pushed it in, lol. Not joking here. In my opinion, that's way too tight for me.

Elderly Instruments has a sale going, which is worthwhile for those of us who don't buy in wholesale quantities. For nicer cases, and less-common sizes such as 0, I buy from them and have been happy. Their website describes the case sizes pretty well, as I recall, but you can always call for more details on case size. I have no financial interest in Elderly Instruments, but I should disclose that I've been a customer since they opened and the owner, Stan Werbin, is a friend.

From a recent e-mail:

"UNTIL JANUARY 12th, 2013 - Save 15% on our new, in-stock CASES & GIGBAGS! .... Our web site lists nearly 800 different cases (for acoustic & electric guitars, basses, mandolins, banjos, ukes, & more).

"Just enter the Coupon Code 36362 in our website shopping cart, and the 15% discount will be shown in the check-out summary. For a phone order (888-473-5810), just mention the Coupon Code 36362 or the 15% sale."

Pat and Tim,

Elderly is actualy the place I had in mind, since I got the same e-mail from them. When I got to looking at options, 800 to go through had me overwhelmed pretty quick!

Todd, That is the one I believe I have been looking for. Thanks!

Y'all just saved me several hours of browsing. [uncle]
