Hey folks, I thought it would be about time for another episode of "What's happening in your Shop?" ! Lately I have been busy making everything, but guitars. Little projects like these oak/ash bench dogs. Attachment: Bench dogs.jpg An 8" long wenge marking gauge. Attachment: Marking gauge.jpg This 4" by 8" jewelry box for my wife. Wood is apple, mahagony, wenge and ash inside the case. Attachment: Apple box 01.jpg Attachment: Apple box 02.jpg For a long time I wanted to have a "real" end-grain cutting block, but didn't feel like spending around $175. So these former walnut scrap pieces turned into a massive 12" by 16" by 1 2/3" walnut butchers block. Attachment: Butchers block.jpg And in case you wonder: Yes! I have a "Fine Woodworking" subscription and love it. I think it is worth every single penny. ![]() So let's see what's happening in your shop these days! Regards & respect Chris |

Lots of finish work. These days it seems like it's lacquer, buff, repeat. As soon as I get caught up another batch of instruments shows up. |

I personally just received my shipment today from LMI of all the pieces I need to build my first guitar. Kind of overwhelming actually, all these pieces to deal with in a hand tool oriented shop. Slightly intimidating. My shop has been spitting out similar items as you just posted Chris. Mostly on a slightly larger scale though, tables, cabinets, chairs, boxes, etc. So this guitar making detour should be interesting. |

French polishing 4 flamenco guitars and stringing up a new violin. The first is trivial and boring. The last is very exciting |

Just finishing up a new Mahogany/Sitka archtop. This one is designed to be played plugged in with parallel bracing and a laminated back. Hopefully it'll be somewhat feedback resistant. ![]() ![]() |

I don't post alot here, although I visit on a daily basis. Thought I would share what I'm working on now. It's a uke bass. Hope to get some Zpoxy on it this weekend. |

French polishing a Flamenca blanca after Barbero. Getting ready to glue the fingerboard on a Romanillos style classical. Researching on my next commission (a soprano uke). But, to the distraction of everything else, I finally vowed to build the drawers for my 3 or 4 year old workbench! No pictures of all this mayhem. I think the soprano uke is going to get a precursor done in walnut, but the real thing is going to be koa. |

Y'all make me feel, well, SLOW. But over the last week I managed to finish my router tower. This is the binding jig I made to rout off the bindings on my first two and recut the channels, because the bindings ended up too thin in places. I finally got it dialed in, got four new pieces of ebony bent and ready for glue up, and only managed to break one this time. I'm making progress! ![]() |

I'm taking a short break now that the challenge is over and that guitar is finished. I'm installing cabinets and doing finish trim on our garage renovation. Next week I'll be back in the shop. I've a got a walnut 000 and a mahogany 0 that need neck carving, a '49 Gibson J45 restoration in progress, a '68 Martin O-16 that needs a neck reset, and a 60ish Aria dred that I need to evaluate to see if it's worth fixing - it has a poorly repaired headstock that suffered a bad break. Lots to do. |

I have been working on the two Ziricote guitars I started in November. http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=38584, The 00 is ready for closing the box and the OM is close behind. I have the neck ready for the 00 and the one for the OM rough carved. These will be my 1st bolt on necks with the 00 completely removable and the OM with a glued down fingerboard extension. |
