Happy New Year Everyone!

I built a guitar for my son a year ago, but had a customer come by just as I finished who had to have it, so I sold it and promised I'd build my son another. A year later, and he finally has it! Heads off to school with him later this week.

Koa OM with coco bindings and red spruce s/b.

I also finished up the all-Michigan L-OO pinetop and delivered it to my customer for Christmas, who was ecstatic! He has promised to send me a sound clip. Once I get the clip, I'll post some more info on this guitar, including pictures and a link to a sound file. This guitar sounded much different than I was expecting. Extremely open and clear with lots of volume. Much more spruce like than I thought I'd get.

Thanks for looking!

They look great Ken!

What was the back/side wood on the first one?

Beautiful. Just beautiful, Ken. Did you do the finish yourself? The finish looks amazing.

Thanks! Darryl, the wood is koa. Yes, Tony, I do all my own finishing.

Nice looking instruments. I was wondering about the wood also on the first. The sides are much lighter appearing than the back. It makes for a nice effect though.

Thanks Zeke. The sides are fairly consistent with the back. I cut them all from the same billet. The back looks much darker largely due to the angle and the side lighting I had.

I had the pleasure of trying the Koa/Adi guitar last week and it is real good sounding and well built guitar. As always it was great to visit and talk guitars with yourself and Paul Murphy. + 1 on a great finish Ken.

gorgeous work on both of the instruments. What are the back woods on the pinetop? Also where did you get the pine top?

Thanks again everyone! Yes, my son is lucky! Still not sure he appreciates it, but maybe this will encourage him to get back into guitar. He backed off playing when hip hop music sort of took over his music library. Not many guitars to be heard in hip hop, so he had no desire to try and figure out songs on his guitar.

Fred, yes great mini show and tell! That coco of yours has got to be one of the loudest acoustics I have heard! Sweet guitar!

Andy, yes, I do remember what happens at school! And we will never see this guitar in this condition again! My one fear is of it getting stolen.

Charlie, yes the finish is EM6000. Zpoxy pore fill, EM1000 as the color carrier for the burst.

Trev, thanks for the CNC help. These two necks are the first off the CNC!

Todd, agreed! I used to not be a big burst fan (on acoustics that is), but the more of these I do, the more of a believer I am! One of these days I need to do one for me!

Kevin, mine was an Ibanez! All I could afford!

John, the pine top is walnut and maple with black locust fingerboard and bridge.

Happy New Year all!

Ken
