Post subject: | Guitar labels Help |
I am looking for a way to make a simple label for my guitars on my pc. I have done this previously but have since changed computers and printers. The copies of my label are blocky and and look like they came from an atari. I didnt have any trouble before. I am adding some simple musical notes and and text. I know i can order them pretty easily but i only make a few guitars a year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Hey, Tony, There are a number of things that could be contributing to your frustration. If you're using an ink jet printer, you could have it set for the wrong paper type--it could be spraying so much ink that it soaks in and bleeds, causing the type and the lines to look more bold than you intended. What software are you using? Are you designing your labels actual size or do you design them big and then reduce their size for printing? Illustrator (and probably some other software) has a default preference setting which keeps line weights the original width even when the shape is scaled down in size. That frustrated me at first, until I found out how to make the line width scale along with the rest of the art. Post a picture of a label and explain how you created the original art on your computer and then we can probably give better suggestions for fixing the problem. Patrick |

I just recently designed my labels, and printed out a bunch. I have a MAC, but this should work fine for windows as well: - I used MS Word - I used one of the pre-made templates in Word ( I forget which, but a number of them will work - just go through them). - I made the page the exact size I wanted the label to be - I imported specific graphics i wanted to use, and picked the font I wanted - created the doc - Saved as a PDF file - When Printing, I print using the actual size (I actually made a page that had 6 labels to a page) - Printed out selecting photo on standard paper, and signed - Glued using fish glue I also used a very good high cotton paper. I am sure there are as many ways to make a label as there are guitar concepts, so find whatever works for you. Glenn |

I too used Word, except I created my own Shape and made it look exactly the way I wanted. Word is so easy to use, no reason not to. |
