Here's #10. I finished this up about a week and a half ago in Alan Carruth's class. It's modeled after a 12 string Alan made a few years ago that was an absolute cannon. This one came out almost as well, plus we compensated both the nut and saddle, so it plays in tune all the way up the neck. This is my second v-jointed and first slotted headstock and my first pyramid bridge. I always try to do something new in Alan's class. Top: Lutz Spruce (High Mountain Tonewoods) Back & Sides: Curly White Oak (RC Tonewoods) Neck: Cherry Headplate & Back Strap: Book matched walnut Binding: Walnut Purfling & Rosette: Black mother of pearl Bridge: Walnut Fingerboard: Maple stained with Alan's black walnut hulled color tea Finish: Behlen's Rock Hard Table Top Varnish, brushed on As usual, it still needs a pick guard. Here's some poorly taken pictures. Thanks for looking. Matt |

Very cool guitar. I'm into the shape. Your design? This is exciting for me to see because my next guitar up will be an SJ of my own design with Lutz from Shane and one of the sister sets of figured white oak from RC Tonewoods. You did a great job on this one. Thanks for sharing it with us. |

Nice 12er!!! Love the oak back! I may have to get me some of that! Could you take a close up pic of the stained maple fretboard. I'm intrigued by it. Keep up the great work. |

Nicely done! Don't see too many figured black oak builds. That headstock is amazing - would like to see some pics of the black MOP purfling - Zipflex I assume? Rob |

Thanks, everybody! ZekeM wrote: Could you take a close up pic of the stained maple fretboard. Here the best I could get. I've done one in persimmon before but I got this one from LMI already slotted to 24.5" and they don't sell persimmon. This guitar is all North American woods, so maple was the only other choice. It stained really easily and I think it looks great. |

The headstock wasn't as hard to do as I thought it would be. Of course, I had Alan looking over my should the whole time. I wish we would see more oak guitars. One of my favorite guitars Alan has built since I've known him is an oak 000. It's awesome. Anyway, here's the best I could do for the black mop. It's not zipflex but some curved and straight strips I bought from a place in Australia a couple of years ago. It was fairly inexpensive. It's hard to get pictures of it. With a flash it tends to wash out. Without a flash you really can't see it that well. |

I'd like to hear your guitar. I just finished up a Quarter sawn White Oak/Lutz size O 14 fret. Its exceeding all my expectations. |
