I'm new to the forum group, so Hi, can someone tell me which tone wood works best with an ALASKAN YELLOW CEDAR SOUNDBOARD on a steel string guitar.

Oh my!

It's just not that simple.
What kind of guitar are you making?
Dreadnaught? Parlour?
Would you like a mellower tone (walnut/mahogany)
or a more chimey guitar (rosewood/ziricote)?
There is a huge set of parameters to control/influence the final sound of the guitar.
But, walnut is the short answer....

I understand your response, I'll be building a 5 inch deep D model and a 5 inch deep OM model. I'm thinking both will be more for finger style.

How 'bout movingui? Bright yellow, medium density, and very low damping. I have one with that combo planned. Use Port Orford cedar or more movingui for the neck, and you have a great sounding lemon :lol:

I think it'd look and sound nice with osage orange, too. Especially after UV exposure so it actually turns orange, rather than yellow.

Walnut would be good if you want the more mellow/high damping sound. Or perhaps myrtle.

Just about any back/side wood sounds good, really. Just a matter of personal preference. I typically prefer low damping, especially for fingerstyle.

Alaskan yellow cedar makes nice back and side sets as well.
