Hi, I have solved my spray gun buying problem and got two, (one is gravity feed HVLP and a touch up gun) Here are the specs of the two: Working Pressure : 29 psi (at gun inlet) Air Consumption: 6 cfm and Working Pressure : 30-50 psi (at gun inlet) Air Consumption: 2.8 - 4 cfm (the touch up gun) My question is what size compressor should I get in order to run these two with no problems? I also have a micro die grinder that I have to run from the compressor. I have no experience so if you could let me know what kind of a compressor sould I be looking at. Thanks, Gorjan |

The specs for compressors will have listings for CFM, generally at 40 and 90 PSI. Just make sure the unit has a rating higher than what you need with some headroom for losses due to hose etc. |

The die grinder will need more capacity than the spray guns. For spraying you will be using the 40 psi rating as you will be around that value at the compressor. I would advice putting a regulator and a inline air filter/drier at the gun. I think he's asking about the gallon size of the compressor he'll need for his spray setup, not the psi output needed. I don't have an answer, but I'm interested to find out what size is recommended. |

Bare minimum is 1 gallon capacity per CFM at the highest rating you will use. Another consideration is duty cycle, the CFM rating by the manufacturer will generally be at the maximum duty cycle so that should be taken into account as well. More gallons of air capacity will bring down the duty cycle so bigger tanks are better. Don't get hung up on HP ratings, they are not worth much on these. Something like this would be about the bare minimum for the spray guns but the die grinder will most likely run it into the ground. http://www.amazon.com/Campbell-Hausfeld ... 99&sr=1-19 Bare in mind this is not a recommendation for this particular equipment as I have no personal experience with it but rather a minimum recommendation on the size of the unit you may need. |

The cfm rating is the true measure of what a compressor will provide and needs to exceed the demand of the tool at the psi it will be operating at. If this is too low the compressor will be unable to keep up a constant flow and pressure no matter how large or small the tank. Fred |

Constant flow and pressure are important when painting a car or other large objects. The small compressor Brian suggested should work fine for spraying a guitar. It might also run the micro die grinder (2 cfm @90psi ?) without hesitation for most things you will use it for. Most air tools require a lot of air, especially air sanders. If you anticipate using them in the future then a bigger compressor would be needed. |
