Kyle and I just finished guitar #011 - and are VERY happy with the results. When asked to build a black top guitar we cringed, but after seeing it done, we are happy we went with it.

The guitar is our best sounding to date - and for that we are pleased.

Our larger MS model (16" lower bout)
Sitka top
Black Ebony sides and back
Australian Blackwood binding
Koa Rosettte
Bookmatched Flame Koa Neck
K&K pickup
FINISH BY JOE WHITE!!! [clap] [clap] [clap]

Wow, looks great. Stunning color contrast. How did the Koa neck work out? Care to post more pics of the neck?

Here's a couple more of the neck. We were playing with some shallow depth-of-field photography - so sorry that the full neck is not in focus.

Very pretty Paul [:Y:] ...love the neck (& always a sucker for blacktops!)

(If I can offer a tip, "tonerite" on a stand rather than in the case... everything needs to be able to vibrate.)

That is a nice guitar and the neck is a stunner, but I would be afraid of long term stability with angled grain like that.

Pretty cutaway and neck wood. Did you find that carving that figured neck wood a challenge? And do you do most of the shaping of the profile with a shaper, or all by hand?

Well.... he whispers....

We have our necks made for us by Chris at Hanalei-Moon. His work is outstanding.

We designed the neck and sent the specs to Chris and he turns around a fabulous product. We can barely purchase the materials for what we pay him for a neck.

So... carving that figured wood was a piece of cake! laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe

Not only that, but he sends you stuff anyone else would be annoyed to. Not that I have an extra neck block in the mail or anything . . . :)

Awesome guitar, Paul! What do you think attributed to the sound quality?

Looks great Paul, the neck wood looks real good. I love black tops when someone else builds them, I still have nightmares about the buff out on the one I did.
