Post subject:  Thicknessing Bloodwood Bindings ??
I resawed a bunch of bloodwood last jan for future bindings. I like the look of it but am not sure how far to thickness it , so it will bend .I plan to use it for classical gtrs and OM/s I/m guessing abt .080 or 2mm. For those who have successfully tamed this wood into bindings how thick should they be . I plan to use a lot of water and the stock is all 1/4 sawn . I will be using a overholtzer elec alum bending jig for Cl and watlow blanket over mdf form for the OM.

I did a bunch and around. 080 seems to be pretty good. I have also gone a bit thinner and it is OK, but doesn't leave much room for leveling on sides if you don't get it glued completely flat. Last bunch wanted to scorch on Fox type bender at 350 so I bent at about 300. This was for an 000. The upper bout is
what gives me the most problems. Have extra on hand.

I just went out to check the last bunch and it is about. 070. It is also a pain to thickness on a drum sander...clogs the abrasive.

Dave thanks for the info. Did you use 80 grit?/ on t, sander ?? I think mine clogged as well using jepson velcro sandpaper from woodmaster on 38in single drum. I take vy thin passes abt .007 on each pass. I was going to shoot for .080 . but I screwed up a few pieces gaah at .075 but will thin those to .060 for a uke which has vy tight bends

I probably used 100 grit, but no matter what Bloodwood has an almost waxiness or something strange about if I have not experienced with other woods.
