A horrific day for parents and children, everywhere. Our children are supposed to feel safe in their' schools, and that is being taken away from them. I hope that all who are affected find some way to recover from this tragedy.

Can't even imagine that kind of pain. My prayers are with the children, faculty and parents of this school. I have to admit tearing up a bit picking my daughter up from school today. A terrible way to be reminded how precious our children are.

Our children are grown, but my immediate thought was how the world would be a
much darker place if any of our grandchildren were taken like this. I am giving my
prayers for comfort and solace for anyone involved in this tragedy.

Tragedy is not an adequate word really. I feel sick from it. I grew up right outside of Newtown and have fond memories of it. I was also in Blacksburg VA at the time 32 kids were butchered by a suicidal maniac. The horrible thing if it is there are probably hundreds more planning the same thing.

So hard to get one's head around things like this. So much of it being done by young people themselves. All one can do is ask why why why.....!!! My heart goes out to all of the famlies involved.

Can someone tell me why we can harass old people and kids in wheelchairs at the airports but we can't provide security at our schools? It boggles my mind. Terror exists in many forms not just terrorists. To me this was an act of terror.

...depends on what you mean. the traditional definition of "terrorism" is an act designed to accomplish political outcomes through heinous acts that frighten and polarize a given populace or demographic...surely not what this shooter had in mind. but indeed it was an act of terror.
i still need to be convinced why Joe Citizen doesn't need to provide a detailed and excellent reason to possess a high velocity/high caliber, shortened semi automatic rifle with high capacity magazines....i suppose i could live a long time before i ever understand why.

Unfortunately this will most likely happen again and it has to do with being free and our freedoms. The horrible thing is that you can protect against normal but when dealing with someone that does go insane , that is when it gets most difficult.
My heart aches for all the children and the families of those involved. May God give their souls peace and the families the strength to endure such a horrid tragedy . There is no logical explanation and the best we can do is keep the innocent children and heroes of this in our thoughts and prayers.

John A. : Saw this today on the View. This Dr. knows what he is talking about. So many young folks getting left out of the whole process for one reason or other. Guns may be the means by which this tragedy happened but it is not the reason. Society in general has a have a good look in the mirror and wake up.

Rich, I have family in Newtown, I grew up in Bethel. I also have family in Littleton. I live in Blacksburg in the best and worst of times.

You know how much I understand what you and your community are going through. The media are nothing like heartless wolves clawing at everyone to be the 'first' with the story. In doing so they ultimately glorify the crime to the hundreds of sick individuals currently in line to play this new killing game created by the media.

I have not even watched the news since this took place because I know how awful they are. Not to surprisingly in their rush to be first with a story the news that came out of there was riddled with errors.

If they ask you questions then just ask them politely to please leave.

Best to you and your community, the healing process will never really end.
