i've come across a few stands that say "don't use with nitrocellulose finish". would this be the same for french polish? thanks |

well, no one else answered so: i'm not sure, but i do know this- french polish is a shellac finish. unlike nitrocellulose, shellac is pretty inert/nonreactive. they even use it to put a glossy coat on pills and candies. it is edible, to some degree. so....based on that, i would think there wouldn't be any reactions to plastics, rubbers, foams, etcetera, which might be present on a guitar stand's contact points. |

Use felt at all the points of contact between the guitar and stand so it will eliminate direct contact. |

Shellac is OK, but only after it has cured for a few months. Stands will leave marks in the back or on the bouts if too fresh. |

thanks! seems like its just best to look for stands that say they are lacquer safe. |

My brother put the guitar I made for him on a stand that I warned him not to use. As a result, the finish is peeling at every spot the stand touched. I warned him and warned him, but he did not listen. FOOL!! Rubber and vinyl are not nitro friendly. Can't speak for French Polish since i have never used it. |

I know this is an old thread but I thought I’d add a bit of info to it. I’ve had some trouble with a guitar stand and EM6000. I recently ordered a cheap Musicians Gear A frame stand from musicians friend. I have a guitar that was finished with EM6000 last year. I buffed the finish in October. The body was done in August or September and I have been playing the guitar since November. My thought is that the EM6000 is just about as cured as it is going to get. The stand arrived on Monday afternoon and I put the guitar on it. Wednesday morning when I picked up the guitar it sort of stuck up at the top where the back was resting on the rubber pad. There is sort of a haze in that one tiny spot on the back that wont rub out. I can probably get it buffed out, but haven’t tried yet. I noticed a bit of something where the lower bout was resting on the foam arms, but it wiped off. I hadn’t read anything about EM6000 having issues with foam or rubber so thought I’d add this to the “Be careful what stand you rest it on” list. I’ll find something this weekend to cover up the rubber and foam. |
