I finally got this guitar strung up last Thursday and got some pictures taken. It still has my test saddle installed as I didn't have a saddle shaped but it will be changed out real soon.

Cocobolo back and sides RC tonewoods
Lutz top from Shane at High mountain
Ebony Binding and peg head overlays
Mahogany neck

Short Youtube video of one of my buddies trying the guitar out when it was only strung up for a couple hours

A real beauty Fred. I'm working on a 12 fret 000 right now myself but without the cut-away. I might change my mind on that now that I've seen yours. Very nice job on the armrest as well. It really "flows".

Nice Fred,

Love 12 fretters and the cut-away is pretty unique. How was the ebony to work with as binding?

Ebony is a pain to bend, I have used it on quite a few guitars and still break a few. I have found that soaking it overnight before bending seems to help as does using plenty of heat. I usually bend binding in my bender but ebony works better when done by hand.

I have done 2 cutaway 12 frets and they have been well received by everyone who plays them.

I like ebony bindings on coco. It matches the black grain lines.
I like the little wedge shaped section on the top side edge. I've seen it on a lot of guitars and always wondered how the hell you do that.

Don't you guys have seasons in your part of Canada Fred?! :) Looks great. Is that your first arm rest? I'm just doing my first but it turned out much deeper. Did you do yours some what like the O'Brian video? It's a little trickier than it looks.

Cheers,
Danny

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments this and the EIR Baritone were my 16 and 17th builds and the last 7 years of building has been a wonderful adventure. This forum has been a big part of my education especially the search function.

I had it installed and shaped before Robbie's video came out. I checked out Tony Karol's tutorials and a few of his posts on this forum and found a few other references on the web. Now it is done and I am playing it I have come to the conclusion that it does not need to be even this large to be comfortable, and I think that if it extends 1/2" into the top and just to the level of the bottom of the binding should be enough. Looking at arm position the angle into the side is much steeper than required.

That's really great Fred! Tastefully done.
What did you spray for finish on this?

That is incredibly sweet Fred!
The colours and shape flow nicely.
The soundclip seemed to capture a bit of that mid-juiced 12-fret sound (that I love) but was also big and deep. Lovely!
A shot of the cutaway and your binding treatment would be nice - your attention to detail is inspirational.

Ken this one will be around for awhile, I built it for display and personal use. We need to get together after the Christmas season has passed.

Yes, we should! Unfortunately, my January is full of travel. I am delivering one this week and another the week after, but I have one more that I will be buffing out and stringing up during January, which I don't have to deliver for a couple of months, so I will have one around.

Great looking and sounding guitar. I bet now, ten days later, the sound has opened up even more yeah?
