Post subject:  a little more viol progress

I know that some of you are actually following this, so...a little more progress on the viol.

I rough carved the front of the viola da gamba. The nice thing about bent stave construction is that the top's shape is pretty much already done and I just need to blend the curves.

Well...its a little more complicated than that...

However, the light was nice Friday morning making a nice photo showing the little Ibex plane and shavings. Next step is to inlay the purflings. Once that is done and cleaned up I can proceed onto carving the underside of the table. I'll be flying blind on that, not a lot of info for this! All you beginning guitar makers count yourself blessed that you have a wealth of info available!

Also, for context, I am including a photo of where I am doing my instrument making. My shop is actually a full time wood canoe shop. The photo shows the next canoe that I'll be working on restoring, in this case a 1970's Chestnut "Bob's Special"; and a mid century modern inspired "S" shaped coffee table.

I am definitely following, thanks for the update, looks great!
What an ambitious project - must be like like driving without headlights without all of the forum info.....
Nice canoe too....
