I bought some ABS binding and purfling thinking it would be easy to use and would withstand dings better than wood. Since I have never used it before I've been experimenting with it the last few days before committing myself to using it on the current build. I'm disappointed to say the least. I can get it to stick to itself just fine but the bond to wood is very poor. So far I've tried Weldwood, acetone, thin CA glue and flexible CA glue. None of them give what I would consider a reliable bond to wood. Am I just doing it wrong or does it really suck that much? On another note I am thinking of trying flat reed like they use for weaving chair seats. It mics out at .056" thick is extremely consistent with grain and color, glues well and it's extremely flexible. They have it at my local Rockler store. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page ... te=ROCKLER what do you guys think? |

I've used the Weld On adhesive that Stew Mac sells & it worked well IMO. Kevin Looker |

I use Duco no issues. Also works on acetate plastics . What was your gluing technique ? |

I tried the Weld On I got from LMI. I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff Stew Mac sells. I laminated the BWB purfling first with acetone and another with Weld on, both seem to work equally well on the ABS. I cut a rabbit on both the long and end grain of a piece of scrap poplar and using a toothpick put Weld on in the rabbit then taped down the purfling. Perhaps it's the wood but the purfling pulls up too easily even after waiting overnight to remove the tape. |
