I have a small crack on a recently bent mahogany side. The crack is in a pretty forgiving spot - treble side, upper bout, about 3" long, so a good bit of the cracked area will be ultimately glued to the heel block. For now, though I need to glue the crack shut and was wondering if anyone knows - will CA glue stain mahogany? |

A cross grain crack is very difficult to hide but can be done. I wouldn't use CA glue for that type of crack, I'd use thinned down fish or hide glue for the repair. A crack running with the grain is much more forgiving and I'd use CA for that type of crack if I was in a really big hurry, or just use fish or hide glue. |

Roberto, Test for staining on a scrap piece - nobody has told us the answer yet. I was thinking from your description that the crack does run along the grain? |

Oh sorry. CA usually darkens wood on a crack. It won't really stain the wood but it will darken the wood which is usually fine along the grain but not across the grain. |

I have a test glue-up drying now. The crack runs with the grain, sorry for not making that clear from the outset. |
