thanks for reading. anyone used this wood? i´ve seen both Alaskan Yellow Cedar and Monterrey Cypress being sold for B&S (AYC also for soundboards), so this could be a cheap alternative (it´s one of the most planted tress around here for hedges). OTOH it grows very rapidly, so maybe i should curb my enthusiasm. thanks again, Miguel. |

Nope, but it's unlikely to be any good for soundboards. "Leylandii" are ultra-fast growing trees that were developed for British Leyland to screen their factories in the Midlands. they have relatively thin trunks, so the wood is a) not going to be wide enough for a decent book match, and b) since it grows so fast, is not very strong with wide annular rings. That being said, give it a try and report back..... Cheers, Dave F. |

BL did have them all around their factories and that's what the locals told foreign tourists, but the trees were around well before BL ever came along.... ![]() I used to have about 20 of them around two sides of my back yard in England - made a lovely screen - I chopped the tops off them when they got to about 6' high though, so they ended up being about 8' high and nicely filled out.
