Post subject:  Drum Sander Cleaning

I’m at a point where I’m winding down on my current build and have some time to spend working on some small projects in the shop. It’s like I’m waiting for paint to dry. laughing6-hehe I bought a used drum sander earlier this year and it is covered in what I’m assuming is sap from the boards the previous owner was sanding.

The gunk is hard and is stuck on the sander like glue. It is pretty much everywhere but on the main drum and feed belt. I’m wondering what the best method of cleaning this up is. I’m sure on the hold down rollers I could scrape this off with a razor blade, but that doesn’t work too well on the painted surfaces. I’ve tried a citrus cleaner and that didn’t do anything.

I’d appreciate any tips.

Thanks,

John

Paint thinner and a Scotchbrite pad works pretty good. Once it is cleaned, wipe it down with methyl hydrate to remove the residue.
