Post subject:  Chasing a buzz
Ever haver a buzz you just can't track down? I have one string that buzzes on two frets. Everything else is great. The action is not too low. Capoed at the first, I'm measuring about about 3/32" at the 12th. I've gone up and down with straight edges and fret rockers. The fret job is more or less perfect. It should be as I just finished it, and I did it in the Erlewine jig...it's dead nuts..... But yet, it buzzes.

I know I'll figure it out in the morning. It's bound to be something stupid but at the moment it's driving me bonkers trying to figure out exactly what's going on. I think tomorrow morning I'll start by changing strings. I'm still using my "setup" set. Maybe I messed them up somehow.

Anyhow, just needed to vent for a second. gaah

Nope, no dent. Like I said, this is a fresh refret and it's as perfect as perfect can be as best I can tell. That's the baffling part. I'll be looking at it today to see what's up. I have a feeling it's related to the Martin FX strings I have on there. They're a bit more flexible than regular strings. Maybe that's enough to cause a little buzz at that point.

I had a buzz like that once John. I turned out to be the nut slot was a little too wide. I just could not believe it was in the nut because it didn't go away when the string was fretted or capoed. I assumed that would isolate the nut and and keep it from being the source of the buzz but it doesn't always.

I recently chased a buzz all over the place. Finally, at someone's suggestion, I went out and bought a new pack of strings. Different brand (uke). And the buzz was gone.

Just tossing ideas.

YEs I think we've probably all been down that road and it can drive you crazy. Just keep poking away and you will find it. Hopefully it's not the truss rod. Check the tightness of your tuning pegs too.

Well, it ended up being strings. I went back to D'Addario Phospher Bronze and all is good. The FX are just a bit more flexible and end up buzzing if you play aggressively.
