I am making a form for an OM, to bend sides. Should I over bend in the cutaway, waist, & lower bout? I have bent wood many times with laminate methods & I always have a little spring back! |

Whole different ballgame than laminated bends. I don't use molds and bend on a pipe, I find spring back if any is negligible. Usually do some minor fine tuning on the pipe directly prior to gluing the rims to the top. |

since all wood will bend differently using a bending pattern you need to start from the outside in so start with your mold. You have to come from the outside. So the thickness of the side needs to be figured. I figure the center lines of the radius of the bouts and waist off the center line and compensate the waist about 1/8 inch smaller radius and the upper and lower bout about 1/4 inch from the apex of the bouts to the blocks. If you are using a mold this will get you in the ball park. |
