Post subject:  String Path Layout\Planning

So I am building a guitar with a 24.75 scale.

I’m using a 1 ¾” nut. The width of my fretboard at the 12th fret is 2 ¼”. On my bridge I have drilled the holes for a 2 ¼” spacing. What I’m seeing when I lay it out is a fairly wide space from the string path to the edge of the fretboard. gaah I need to do a more accurate layout to get some better measurements.

My bridge isn’t glued on yet so I can make another and adjust the string spacing. I thought I was following a pretty standard plan for laying out my fretboard and string spacing but I must be off somewhere.

Any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong, or not thinking of? With what I have so far, what would be a good string spacing at the (new) [headinwall] bridge?

Thanks for any tips,

John

12th fret neck width being equal to the string spacing at the bridge is a pretty standard formula. Should be fine. I assume you've double checked all your measurements?

Thanks. I'll lay things out again and see where I'm at.

I'm probably just experiencing some end of the project panic. laughing6-hehe

Vintage martins used a 1 3/4 nut 2 1/4 12th fret and 2 5/16 bridge spacing.
This is all subjective. As you get further down the fretboard, the spacing if too close to the edge will pull off and often the hi E will snag under a fret.
My personal favorite is what you have 1 3/4 nut 2 1/4 12th and bridge
