What case would you recommend for a Martin 00 sized body? On the last 000 I built, I used the TKL Molded case (Concept 2.9) but they don't make it for a 00 sized body. They do make it for a Classical sized body but the lower bout is 14 1/2" and I haven't yet found out the size of the waist or upper bout so it may not be a good fit. I'm unsure if they make a true 00 sized case or no (waiting to hear back from Kevin at TKL).

So what 00 sized cases would you recommend? Also, I've been toying with moving the waist on my 00 bodies a little higher and making the waist 1/2" or so wider. Would these changes significantly impact how it fits a 00 sized case?

Thanks!

The TLK classical guitar case is not a good fit for a Martin 00-12 fret. The lower bout fit is fine; but the guitar slides around in the case at the upper bout, allowing the neck to jump out of the case's neck support.

The last one that went out the door had some Wonder Rags folded to fill the voids at the upper bout. The guitar was secure with this cobbled fix. I am building two more now & also would like to find a properly fitting case.

For clarification, the body I'm using is a 14 fret 00 body. Ironically, I'm using a 12 fret neck so it is sort of a Norman Blake version of a 00.

Steve, did you use an actual Martin case made by TKL or was it a TKL case that supposedly fits a Classical and a 00 body?

It was the T7800 Premier Classical Acoustic Guitar Case, which supposedly fits a Classical and a 00 body.

It will have a Martin badge on it. It's just held on with 2 screws. Get your own nameplate made. I get mine from a local trophy company.

The case Woody linked to appears similar to the double arched case that the Canadian company makes (can't recall their name at the moment but the double arched one is probably their best case). Anyone know if it's the same case? I can purchase it much cheaper from another source (Tamarkin for example); however, it also is a case made for both classical bodies and 00 bodies so I'm unsure of the fit on a 00 body. Here is a picture of the case I'm referring to (not sure what body this particular case fits):

I just went thru this on a previous thread an bout my OO's. Elderly got back to me with their Canadian and Guardian cases. They (canadian recommended) still leave me with a 3/4" upper bout void on each side...because my upper bouts are 10 1/4" and the cases are 11 1/2. This is a bit better than my classical cases currently being used.

I have some "Musicians friend" bought on sale a few years ago--- classical cases for storage on past guitars, padding is good and they fit well in lower bout on my L-OO's but have slop in upper bout...but neck channel is very snug....so guitar doesn't really move around in the case. ALSO guitar back does not rest on back case padding so any shipping toss could stress the neck badly. I would be a bit worried about shipping in those cases without a padded foam upper bout/back inserts.....but safe storage at shop would be great.

Cedar creek answered about building a case to fit.I haven't had a chance to inquire about that yet. IF I have a client that wishes a custom case...I will probably go that route.
