Hello all! This is my first time to show my work here, I usually build my own models but this time I had this "vision" of L-00 with little Martin twist, like headstock and Herringbone. Otherwise it is pretty much build after Grelliers excellent plans, with some chances in bracing. Fun guitar to build and sounds pretty good, too! Specs: top: Lutz from Shane, cheap one. It has some run out, but is plenty stiff and sounds great b&s: EIR, pretty nice set with strange "halo" color effect in the back neck: african mahogany fb, bridge, faceplate, unslottet pins: ebony binding: flame maple tuners: gotoh Thanks for watching! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nicely done! I'm building one for the challenge from my adaptation of those plans. |

Thanks guys for all the kind words! Roberto asked how it plays, well, for the time being, it is my personal guitar (as long as somebody wants to buy it that is), so I set it up to my own specs. I am very crude and simple player, so medium strings, medium action and as low nut as possible, so I can whack out my position 1 open chords loud and clear with ease. And it delivers, very fast rise in the attack, and very loud, but there are some nice overtones too, so it can be quite rich (rosewoody) when attacked lightly. But it clearly is the result of the design, more raw than pretty. Anyway, it is only couple of days old, so I assume it will mellow some. |

I'm a big fan of the L-00 shape but prefer the Martin aesthetic. Beautiful combination and beautifully executed! ![]() |

Looks great! Were you going for any particular voicing? And do you feel you came close to it? How thick are the bridge wings? |

Thanks! Bridge wings are about 2,5mm thick. About voicing, not really, I had no personal reference since this is my first L-00 I have ever build, so I had no particular goal in mind. And, I tend to think that when you have the materials selected and design done, there is only so much you can do tonewice anymore, really. Of course you can screw things up, but I think you most only can optimize the given design by optimising the materials you have in hand, and the character of the tone is what it is by the design and materials. So, I just tried to optimize the stiffness/weight ratio as always, and to avoid the actual note frequencies in top/back/air eigen frequencies, and to balance the top/back frequence ratio. So far I can tell that the horsepower is there, and balance is quite good, there is no particularly nasty wolf tones. But, I have noticed in my previous builds that there have been some shift in eigen frequencies after a while when strung up, so things can turn to worse still. But at the moment I am quite happy of how things are and the sound it have. |

A very understated elegance... classy, as others have said! I really like the combination of elements, the woods, a simple but very pleasing rosette, the herringbone... Bravo! |

Thank you guys! About binding, maybe the most tedious job of building a box to be called a guitar, I would like to give credit and to say my thank you`s to Mr. Garry Hallam (mostly from luthiercom.org) of building the most beautiful jig for routing the binding ledge. Thank you Garry, for very well done and designed jig that I am very happy to have had the opportunity to buy and to own, thanks! |
