Hi all,

For those of you who have been members of the MIMF in the past, or even just have been lurking down there, you have most certainly been helped at one time or another by Amy Hopkins. Not only she is one of the best repair person the craft has known, but she is also one the most generous one with her knowlegde, time and sweat.

She is currently in need of help and some folks down at the MIMF have started a fund raising campaign for her.

Click here for more information about both the campaign and Amy herself.

If any of you guys feel you can help her, please do.

Thanks to Lance for letting me post this.

Thanks Alain for the info.

I'm very happy to take part in helping out a truly wonderful person who needs the community to step up and help her out at this time. She's so deserving...

Don

Amy is the greatest. She has lent me excellent advice. I am willing to jump in, but I am a cynic about one thing. I want to know how to help her without paying fees to Indiegogo.com. Read all the links carefully and you will see why I make this point. Sorry if I'm being a tight-a.. I just want all help to go to Amy.

On the MIMF I saw a link to a paypal account. Clint something or other - Amy responded on the same thread - so it should be legit.

Send your donation using Paypal to searcysw@gmail.com. You won't have to pay the 9% fee to Indiegogo.

Thanks for helping!

Here is the link that first gave me pause. It was attached to the very first post on MIMF about Amy:

http://www.indiegogo.com/AmyHheart

Go to that link. Scroll down toward the bottom--last sentence of the second-to-last paragraph. You will see a sentence that says: "Our goal is to raise $35,000 to go in its entirety (minus indiegogo's fees) towards Amy's surgery and aftercare expenses."

The parentheses are NOT mine. They are right there on the site. But no explanation of what those fees will be. That troubles me.

I'd rather 100% of the contributions go directly to Amy, and I expect Charlie (the moderator) over at MIMF knows how to make that happen. He seems to be a stand-up guy and has guided the MIMF through a difficult transition recently. He's approachable, too.

I'm just saying, don't automatically follow links and click through to "contribute now" without knowing what you are doing.

I have not yet followed up on Alain's recommended link, but I will. Thanks, Alain.

Clint chose to use 'indiegogo' because it has a history of attracting anonymous donations, often large ones, so while they take a percentage cut, he thought it was a worthwhile gamble. But he's also taking donations via paypal, which takes a much smaller percentage.

I've offered-up ten Tortoloid sheets of your choosing for sale in the MIMF's classified ad section, with all the proceeds going to Amy, of which only 2 sheets are left. So there's a chance to buy something you would normally buy anyhow, with 100% of the money going to Amy....

I think this is worthy of a bump.

Hi again everyone.

The MIMF is having an auction where all money collected will go directly to Amy. Lots of stuff: Several back & side sets (ukes and guitars), Tools (chisels, carving, drilling), MIMF plans, A custom banjo rim, Inlaid fingerboard, Bridge blanks, Osage orange fingerboards, ...

Here's the link: http://mimf.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=23

You need to be a registered member to participate in the auction, which is very easy to become.

Hope you all come and take a look!
