So who glues the bridge plate to the x braces and who doesn`t.And does it make any difference? I know some folks notch their x braces for the bridge plate, and does this make a difference.Just wondering? |

I've always felt the bridge plate to x-brace is pretty close to an endgrain joint on the bridge plate side, so I don't think you get much mechanical strength, but I always glue because, as said, you don't want any unglued wood joints that can cause strange noises. |

I glue my bridge plate on first since its flat. My X brace is curved and touches and is glued. Its a very important structure feature. |

I've never glued the bridge plate to the x-brace. If I am understanding this correctly you are saying the edge of the plate to the sides of the x-brace? I usually shoot for about 1/16th inch space between the edge of the plate and the brace. I'm quite sure that this is one of those things that really doesn't matter ![]() |

Sure do. Easy to shape it on a radius dish. Everything else that touches the top gets a radius so why not the bridge plate? |

+ 1 on radiusing the bridge plate to match the top arch... And chamferring / gluing the edges where they butt against the X braces. |

Radius, yes -- radiused lamination. Chamfered edges, yes. Touching X, no (look closely and you'll see the gap). (Coated with CA for toughness, yes.) No problems whatsoever with this design. |
