Post subject:  Design ideas to share

In the spirit of sharing, giving back, paying it forward... in case anyone would like to 're-design' these ideas, here are two concepts I've been working on over the past few days.

The oval cut-out in the fretboard extension matches the oval shape of the soundport (not visible in this pic).

I'm pretty optimistic about the split saddle. What I'm trying to do is to get the break points into the middle of the saddle, instead of having 3-4 of them placed toward the front or back edge, as on one-piece saddles. I hope this idea works out as planned (!!).

Enjoy,

Thanks for sharing Ken I look forward to an update on your bridge idea. I'll be very interested in understanding the intonation outcome and if you found it to be a better solution.

Nice. That hole in the fingerboard extension is kinda cool

The split saddle's been done by quite a few builders for exactly the reasons you've stated, I used to have a Takamine with a saddle like that. I think it's a good way to go since it never hurts to have extra adjustment range for down the road.

extending the fretboard like that, and adding a cute little hole in it looks fine, but you(or the next luthier) will curse it when it comes time to work inside, add a pickup, etc...

If a design idea adds -something- to the instrument, it can typically be justified, but in this case, I don't see it adding anything of value(other than looking different/nice), yet it takes -away- a lot.

Just something to think about....
