Any luthiers out there used pecan for a bridge plate? The northern pecan grown here in the KC area is abt as hard as EIR.Have lots of it , but never used it. I just cut up a few pieces on the bandsaw,I like the variegated brwn /cream colour.If it/s not 1/4 sawn it cups readily like it/s cousin hickory.Last year, one of the olfers in tenn mentioned using honey locust for bridge plates on steel strings . |

Based on my very limited experience with pecan I wouldn't use it for anything on a guitar. All of the stuff I've ever come across moves a lot. |

Thanks ,yup ,it does move , I plan to thin the pecan an laminate the sides an back.Good articles especially the one abt the luthier in louisiana who builds with it. |

Other than for a fingerboard, I have not used pecan. I do know that at least three of the objections in the AGF thread are unfounded.....large pores, high weight and instability. All are on par with rosewood. The density would make me tend to believe that a pecan guitar would sound more like rosewood than mahogany. Pecan and hickory do have high damping, but so does a lot of the maple I have handled. |
