Whats that in oz ???? .. in the larger, but still smallish can on the SATA minijet 4, 250cc, which I think is about 5-6 oz max, I can shoot two acoustic bodies and a couple necks, plus get a second coat on one body and maybe the necks as well ... |

Chris I've never measured for lacquer (though I'm back to spraying nitro so I'll know soon enough) but when I'm spraying EM6000, I usually get 4 or 5 coats out of one DeKups small container...that's 9oz, so I'm probably spraying about 2oz per coat. A quart is 32 oz, and when I was spraying nitro I could easily get a full guitar out of a quart at about 10 coats, and most of a second guitar. That's before I switched to an HVLP conversion gun. Wow....I can't even imagine spraying a 1/2 quart per coat...that's a massive amount of material. |

How old is your gun? I remember those old siphon cup guns with their 25% transfer efficiencies, 75% of your materials were either in the filters or to be swept up off the floor. |

I have finished 4 guitars with a gallon of EM6000 and still have about a half gallon left. |

On my electrics there are a lot of rounded edges and details which waste material in order to guarantee coverage....but I do know that I use right about 40 fl. oz. of mixed material (nitro, reducer, retarder) per guitar to lay down 8 topcoats. I'm experimenting on one guitar now....putting down only 6 topcoats. I think I'm totally safe considering I've never come close to sanding through with 8. If that works out it would be roughly a quart per guitar. |

I seem to use more that most folks here. My detail gun has a 4 1/2 oz. cup. I can do a jumbo body or a med sized guitar body & neck without re-filling. I do run the air at the highest recommended pressure for the gun, so I might be getting more overspray than I should. I shoot full wet coats when building up the finish thickness. |

And now your expensive materials wind up on the project, not the floor. Less VOC emissions as well. |

I just finished 3 electrics that are on the larger side 14.75 lower bout. Went through 1 gallon of Mohawk. I feel this is too much and that I am sanding most off between coats. I need to change my sanding ritual, filler type and timing of sanding sessions I think. I am using a Fuji G-XPC 3. Interesting thread. |
