AKA Indian Rosewood, shisham, sisu, tahli, Irugudujava, or Jag

I've scrounged a sideboard which is made from this.....

according to what I can find on the net its a rosewood, with far less allergy issues than Cocobolo......

anyway, I've just made a fretboard for a mando from a drawer front.

the smell!!!

as it was going through the band saw it smoked a little.... no scorching on the wood, so it must have been the oil in the wood..... but it smelled like a joss stick!

really sweet and cloying..... never had the like of it before....

anyway, I'll let y'all know whan it's done!

I really like that sideboard - I am sure you will hear opinions on the sideboard itself - it really is nice. Post pics of what you make of it -

Don't know much about the wood, but the tree is very common here in AZ. A friend just had to cut down a beautiful young tree in her yard because it was growing so fast it became apparent it would be too big for the space she planted it in. I was hoping to snag a piece but the guy who cut it down carted it off before I could get over there to look. Wendy

I have cut a few sets from some that was planted in South Florida. I haven't used it yet, but I see no reason not to.
