Post subject:  Water Based Poly Clean Up

I have a guitar that is finished with Water based Poly and I need some help. I left my guitar in the case in my hot truck for too long and some of the fibers from the case have melted into the neck. Basically to patches of "fur" on my guitar neck now.

Is naptha what to use to get it off or is something else recommended for water based poly?

It won't hurt to try Naptha.

Aside from Billy Gibbons, most folks don't like furry guitars.Naptha or maybe even acetone should take the fuzz off, but the finish will be marred. That will most likely not leave the neck feeling very good when playing so my advice is to just bite the bullet right now and sand it out and refinish the neck. Or at least the sections that got messed up.

Ok, so I took some Naptha and that took off the fuzz. So I was left with the indention's from the fuzz in the finish. I then took some OOOO steel wool and worked on the neck for a few minutes. Now I have a beautiful satin finish on my neck with no evidence of anything ever happening! I buffed it with a little guitar cleaner and now the neck is smoother and faster than it ever was before.

You know, it's funny how these things work out. The neck was glossy before and I have always like satin necks. I would have never had the nerve to bring it down to a satin if nothing had ever happened. So what looked like a disaster turned out to be a blessing.
