Post subject: | Question about this outside mold |
Hello, I stumbled on this video on youtube, by Peter Oberg. He is very nice in showing his building technique. I wonder whether his outside mold can be opened in half or it is a unique piece. I guess it must open, otherwise I think taking out the guitar would be too difficult. I am in the process of making one and I am considering whether making it in one single block or two halves that can be taken apart. Here is the link, if I am allowed to post it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MG1MJ_fadQ |

It seems to me that he must have trimmed the overhang from the back already. See how the plywood back protector slips in and out? He can remove his clamps and slide the body out upwards without having to open the mold. However, if I were you, I would make a hinged two piece mold. I think that that is what most of us probably do... |

It probably opens somehow. If you can guarantee your sides are straight and square you can push the body out without opening the mold. I think I'll keep the insurance of a 2 piece mold though |
