I'm at the stage of getting the soundboard braced on this guitar. Its the first 27.5" scale length baritone I've done so - does anyone have any wisdom about bracing the thing? She's based on a Jumbo body shape which I nabbed from LMI's J200 plan. As the bridge position is different to the "norm" whats the best design for the X braces? I can find very little info on baritones so any help would be great ![[:Y:]](./images/smilies/smiley20.gif "Thumbs Up")

Here's what the bracing on my baritone looked like. The guitar was very successful. It is tuned from B to B, has a 27" scale and about 166 lbs. of string pull with a light gauge baritone set. The bridge wings are over the X. |

many thanks Bob ... so you kept the intersection of your X fairly standard but shifted the plate down the lower bout a touch to accommodate the longer scale length? You mention that your bridge wings are over the X braces so that means you made a wider than "normal" bridge too? That clears up a lot as I wasn't sure if it was the best approach to shift the X intersection down and possibly stiffen up the lower bout, or leave it in a standard position and shift the bridge plate as you have

I can't remember if I made the bridge any larger than I normally do. I don't have the guitar here to measure. I did tighten the x a little and move it down a little. Not much for either. We normally think of the X position in relation to the soundhole, but the position of the soundhole depends on how many frets you want and the scale length (assuming a joint at 14), This one had 20 frets. And, it was a jumbo body (much like the Martin M). |
