You might want to give Alaska Specialty Woods a call. I'm sure not everything they cut is A+ quality. The A non-figured is $50.

Alaska Specialty Woods is a good suggestion. I'd also suggest e-mailing Ed at Fraser Valley Fine Woods, finewoods@telus.net. I just looked--he has 2A arch tops for $33. Sounds like you want 1A or 1/2A....

Filippo - if red spruce would work for your needs, give Dave Smith at Smith Creek a ring. I'll bet he can hook you up.

If you want a fragrant carve, Vince at Pacific Coast hooked me up with some nice POC with some heavy brown streaks that was at the right price. http://www.pacificcoastwoods.net/vince_strauss_002.htm

I can help you out with Sitka, possibly Engelmann, especially if you are veneering. We do Sitka electric body blanks, and I can often find billets that are wider than our 7 1/2" spec.

Let me know.

Filippo,
You ought to check with Alaska Specialty Woods, as already advised. These are the good guys--not the questionable guys occasionally mentioned in other threads. Good ethics, great service, excellent pricing. I don't think you'll regret it.

Fraser is the current bet. Plus ship from Canada to USA. But 2A is perfectly suitable top wood. I want to veneer so as you say 1A or B grade QS ... stuff that didn't quite work out ;-)

Filippo

I suspect you may have already used one of their tops.
Chris V. recommended them to me on a previous thread in which you said you got your top from Chris's basement... sound about right?
Not to steal the thread, but has anyone had any experience with their flat tops? I was hoping to buy Lutz from Shane, but unfortunately it sounds as if he's still trying to get back on his feet.

Filippo, you might check Orcas Island Tonewoods, The Wood Well or Notable woods.

If you lived nearby you could come on over and I'd give you a bunch, I have plenty of visually challenged but otherwise fine Norwegian spruce archtop wedges. That's how it goes when you cut your own...

BTW, I don't think Old Standard has been mentioned?
