Thank you Lance for removing the offending post. Although I didn't find the mythological imagery extremely offensive, I do think it was less than appropriate for a "family site". Even though most of us are "old farts" who build guitars, anyone is free to visit this site and I don't think adult humor has a place here.
I admit I found most of the posts to be quite funny, however I do think there was a subtext that was a jab at some of the contributers to a discussion that was previously removed. In the immortal words of Rodney King - " People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along?"

I would suggest that while the photo in question was inappropriate, the remainder of the thread was fine and in fact very entertaining to those with the sense of humor to appreciate it. Someone suggested it might be a good idea to "tag" threads that some might not appreciate with something in the subject line, like Todd did in this case with the word 'contentious', and those who disprove simply avoid those tagged threads rather than campaigning to have them deleted. Might be a good solution.

At the risk of sounding "contentious" (and getting this thread removed laughing6-hehe ), let me clarify the fact that I did not campaign to have any discussions removed. I was just thanking Lance for using his own good judgement. Personally I think I'm rather thick skinned, although when asked if I "could take a joke", my reply was "Sure - as long as it is on somebody else." [:Y:]

I would have to say that the program works quite well like it is , adding a mod will only create additional discord at some point . The simple fact is we are all mods on here and try and moderate ourselves . I have removed a post 1 time because someone decided to be the groups moral conscience , being quite rude to me at the same time . This idea will ONLY create discord !

With all due respect to Lance and everyone else , lets leave the situation as is and moderate ourselves . Let Lance decide what is and is not appropriate on HIS site.

Nice.

This should not be too hard to figure out who you are refering to. The problem with an unmoderated (essentially) forum is that some folks get to play fast and loose with the rules. Some care, others do not. Your avatar for example. Now, I'm no prude and I could care less. But you have to admit, you aren't playing by the rules. And trying to sell in the general forum when we have a classifieds section for doing just that is not playing by the rules. Rude? Really?

Nice.

Yes, I agree. But when someone goes digging up history and knows it will be taken badly, then what do you call that? Being nice?

Nope.

Yes rude , I guess the diffrence is when I see somthing questionable , I either ignore it or approach the person privately , not in open forum and create more contention . I contacted the individual in question and even apologized for my overstepping , was it reciprocated for the rudeness . No . And as for the avitar . its changed. So yes , people will occasionly overstep and make a poor choice , having more moderators will only make people less likely to post openly because now you will have more people who want to say " I THINK " the rules mean this or that . My post wasnt to point a finger or make a issue mike , it was simply meant as an example of what has and can happen . This is a great forum and lets keep it that way . If I overstep and offend anyone , contact me privately . If i am called out in open forum I may respond " Sit down shut up drink your beer " and stop trying to be my moral conscience !

Not disagreeing with you, Mike. The history you mention *should* nothing to do with this thread, so I do agree with you.

We've lost some threads recently that had value on multiple levels for OLF members and I just don't want to see another one bite the dust. ;)

You failed.

Mike

And my example is driven home , we disagree . And as A moderator , u would have control and probably act according to your thoughts of the "rules" in the matter , as would most everyone . Game set and Match . More moderators is not the answer . And Mike , I still like you . Nothing personal here. [:Y:]

Last I have to say on this subject .

Oh no!...that unicorn appears to be suffering second-hand symptoms from an emerging luthier health issue. Poor little guy... :(

Did I participate in the offending thread?

Because (in the words of King George) if we did utterly abandon ourselves I should like so very much to remember.

Dang it, Zlurgh...I don't remember whether you participated either. My sense is you did not, as my sides have not been aching.

You can always use the [:Y:]
I know, it sucks. Not quite the [like] button.
I promise I will eventually get that option written in to the software.

That's true. Snarky, smug, indirect comments should NEVER be interpreted as insults. That's just the idiocy of the stupid person taking things wrong.
