Attachment: P1030248 (640x480).jpg Attachment: P1030249 (640x480).jpg Somehow i managed to put this rather plain looking WRC top w walnut burl rosette, on some pretty well figured reddish Koa. I just cant quite envisage the rest of the scheme to tie this together.. It is going to be a 12 fret Hybrid classical with trad slotted headstock but slimmer f/b and neck. I wiped it down a bit to give you the idea |

FWIW if it were me and since you already have the walnut in the rosette I'd probably consider some walnut binding and headplate. |

Looks like you got a lesson in chip out using the router on the upper right bout. I had the exact same thing happen to me with the WRC top on my current build. You will need some purfling for the top to cover that up. I would think some very light or very dark binding for a good color contrast with your wood scheme. Im thinking tortiose binding, or celluloid if you want to go light. Maybe with some b-w-b lines, and small herringbone or rope purfling for the top. Thats going to look nice. Love the walnut rosette. great job. |

Thats some intersting ideas thanks Gil ..I almost wouldnt have minded if it was router chipout but it was a real doofus contender me pulling the box out of the mold by its ears! ![]() anyway the binding ledge will cover it no problem so i dodged one there |

If it were me, I would look into the possibility of walnut or maple for the fingerboard, and binding it and the body with maple or walnut. You could add a purfling that compliments either or both of those, or the koa, too, for that matter. What if you were to do a maple f/b and bridge? Could be interesting on a darkish guitar. |

For the binding, I'd go with curly Eucalyptus if you can find it, if not curl koa. Head plate, walnut, finger board something dark like ebony |

Ebony binding would give it sort of a peppery flavor with a smoky aftertaste. Flame koa would add some pizazz while still keeping it's shirt buttoned up. Maple or the like would just say, "HEY, HOW YO DOIN?" in kind of an edgey way. |

Ebony binding with some wbwb purfling and a burl headplate might be classy. |

Bloodwood looks good with koa, and walnut. I used some for those 2 woods, on different builds, thinking it might look garrish, but it looks nice! In real life, it doesn't look as red. |

Steve, I have a Ukulele in all koa that has the head plate in koa and is bound with tortoise. In fact, I like it enough that I have plans to build one just like it. If you back the tortoise binding with white it will help brighten the tortoise look. Either a small herringbone or rope purfling would set of the WRC. Another thought would be Ivoroid. The color of the Ivoroid would aid in pulling the colors of the guitar together without being overbearing. Nice job. ![]() Best of luck, Philip |

But my book is short and has very few pages. Most of which have been doodled on by my kids leaving the original text difficult to read at best. Still, I say bloodwood. |

I forgot to add that for the headplate, I would go ebony. Barring that, my next choice would be koa cut offs from the back and sides. Tough to inlay into though due to the color. |

Attachment: P1030502 (640x480).jpg Attachment: P1030500 (640x480).jpg Just wanted to say thanks for all the interesting ideas.... I even like saying the words "curly eucalyptus"But after all I went for good old EIR as it seemed to pick up some of the purple/dark streaks in the koa. The FB and bridge will also be EIR with walnut headstock |
