Hi Folks,

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I've been a full time repairman for the last 20 years and I build a few guitars a year, some for customers and some just for fun.

I found your forum and read quite a bit. You all seem like a well learned group. I may not post a lot however, I do enjoy reading. When I started my work with guitars there was no internet and almost everything was a secret so, I really enjoy this exchange of information.

I'm in south-western PA and I drink a bit too much.

So, there's my hello. I hope to learn a lot and share as much as I can.

If this is in the incorrect folder, I apologize. I'm not as familiar with internet protocol as I would like to be.

Cheers,

JT

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
