Wud, can we all vote? I sure wish I had gotten in on this, as I'm working on a ukelele that would probably have fit into the project nicely. I would love to vote though... so where can we see all the entries? |

The vote thread is here http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10132&t=36657, but apparently we're having some technical difficulties because the poll options aren't showing up anymore. |

I feel like david and golaith here... everyone else got a lot of vote except for mine, I must have really messed up on this one. |

Tai, Wud and the rest of the crew, I apologize for the recent surge in votes for my instrument. I forwarded the link to Ryan, the musician in the videos, as a matter of interest, not for votes. He posted it on his facebook page to be supportive of my work. I explained that is not the "spirit of the challenge", and that this is a friendly forum thing. I do appreciate the support of my local friends, but really I should still be tied with Tai, in the basement as we were this morning. And Wud, you do deserve a big thanks for doing this, it was work for you and it does add life and promote camaraderie on the forum. Rob |

Photo's are just too small and it's very difficult to see any detail. Just remember: presentation is everything (well, almost everything). |

I doubt anyones gonna call for a recount here for hanging chad ! What me worry? ![]() ![]() Much of the local buzz from this came from Facebook, I was hesitant to use it at first, but it should not be ignored by any one trying to get a name out. For me it is a pre-meeting ice breaker. In our small town, we don't know everyone, but you recognize most, with facebook you know their name or what they do. So now people who I have not met, know me and what I do. If they see the uke and not me, it is easy for them to find me as we will likely have mutual friends. |

I had a lot more trouble with the getting words out part though, have no connection inside the Taiwanese music scene (no one seems to be opening any doors for me) and expats here can only do so much. I did get something published on a website but that's it... not much going for luthiers here in Taiwan as most of the respect is given to giants like Taylor, Martin, and Gibson, as well as celebrities both foreign and domestic. So nobody outside of the forum members and my small circle of friends really saw the ukelele. The guy who played it in the demo video think it sounded like crap too, not much help for encouragements... Thing is he owns a ukelele store so anything that doesn't say Kamaka or has the big turtle on the headstock automatically is crap in his mind. |

Tai Fu wrote: I feel like david and golaith here... everyone else got a lot of vote except for mine, I must have really messed up on this one. I think a lot of us on the forum feel like that, Tai. There are so many talented builders here--the difference is that you were in on the action here when most forumites weren't. You didn't mess up at all--that's a great looking and sounding uke and something to be proud of. I particularly like your choice of padauk for the back and sides--looks great with the bindings, and it's hard to beat the tone of padauk in my estimation. And when your recent shop flooding, move and everything else is taken into consideration, I don't know how you even got it done. You young guys sure have a lot more stamina than I do! In competitions--especially friendly ones like this one--it's almost impossible to really pick one entry to vote for, especially when all of the entries are good as they were in this case. I say, "job well done!" Dave |
