I'm repairing a Martin D-28 from late '91 and it isn't responding like nitro. I tried using butyl cellosove and it just turned the rosewood black. I understand they went to another finish (polyester?) around '94. Is it possible they could have done so earlier? Thanks |

As far as I know the guitars made in Nazareth have been Nitro lacquer for years. |

The top coat should be nitro lacquer. The problem you are describing my be due to the vinyl sealer. |

I thought the vinyl sealer might be the culprit as well. Thanks for the responses |
