Post subject:  Need Advice on Conversion Gun for EM6000

Hello all, I'm getting ready to finish #1 with em6000 over epoxy porefill and I would like to get some opinions on which conversion guns folks are using with success. I have read through quite a few of the other threads on the subject and have pulled a few suggestions from them. I have been thinking about going with one of these two:

QualSpray QS-125WB

Walcom EGO HVLP
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EGO-HVLP-MINI-T ... _503wt_952

However, I read just now that Jeff at target coatings recommends a 1.3-1.5 nozzle. Both of the guns listed above apparently come with a 1.2. What else should I check out that is around the same price range (under $250?) I don't plan to use it with anything other than the em6000...possibly the em1000 also at some point.

I sprayed KTM-9 on a mandolin kit a couple of years ago with a harbor freight touch up gun that Mike Doolin mentioned in his spraying instructions with pretty good results but I understand this em6000 is a different ball game.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Jeff

I don't use EM6000, but the Walcom EGO is a really good gun. I spray oil based Varnish, as well as Polyester with it. The company that manufactures the Polyester I use recommends a 2mm tip, but I get excellent results with a 1.2.

I have the Walcom EGO gun. I've been very happy with it. It sprays much finer than the harbor freight gun I was using. I used it to spray KTM-SV. I believe it is a similar viscosity as the EM6000, but I didn't use it for that. I purchased mine from the same source on ebay. I've been quite happy with the purchase and the product.

I just finished spraying EM6000 with a QualSpray QS-125WB. I really like the gun. It seems a perfect size for a guitar. I had really tight control with both the size of the pattern and the amount of finished sprayed. I used the 1.2 needle.

I am very happy with it.

I've been using the Qualspray 600WB on Jeff's recommendation. I have to tell you, it sprays absolutely beautifully. I just leveled and buffed on Saturday, and I don't think I ever had an easier time leveling. The finish off the gun is very nice.

That said, I don't think it would make a very good gun for doing bursts or anything like that, but I have a Devilbiss EGA for that kind of fine work. The 125 may be a better choice if you need one gun to do everything.

Whatever you do, though, I recommend that you put aside an extra $40 and install the DeKups system on your gun. I wouldn't spray without it at this point.

I appreciate all of the advice guys! It really helps.

John, thanks for the heads up on the DeKups system. That looks like something I'll spring for when I order my gun. Now if I could ever get past the pore filling process I'll be on my way! [headinwall]
