Hi all -

This is my second guitar, an OM with a Doug Fir Top, Myrtlewood back and sides, Maple binding, Maple rosette, Maple bound coco fretboard. Top and back/side woods from Dana at Oregon Wildwoods. It sounds FAR better than my first... sweet, mellow tone, easy to play. The Doug Fir has amazing grain and chatoyance, and when you strum it, you can actually feel the top vibrate when you place your hand on the body. It is a gift for my dog sitter, who is a fabulous singer/songwriter/dog sitter. Thanks for all the knowledge I glean (steal) from this forum!

Eric

Eric, I'd say your dig sitter is one lucky person, indeed. Nice work!

Very impressive for a second build! I would love to hear a sound clip.

One constructive thought is to challenge yourself to invest some additional time on your next build sanding the finish completely flat before you buff/polish. But notwithstanding that, this is a great job for a second instrument.

Beautiful, love the wood combinations. Those are local woods for me, so I have wanted to try Myrtle and doug fir and myrtle with POC. Curious on the sound as well. Great job.

That is a very good looking combination. Nice one.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
