anyone ever use zpoxy for gluing koa wood binding? I'm thinking with it's long open time that it might be easy to use.

Thanks

Sean

I can't imagine why you would want to use epoxy to glue wood binding. Messy, requires mixing, and a fussy sort of joint. I'm a proponent of CA (strap in place, wick in glue), lots of others seem to like fish glue for high initial tack and long open time.

(I'm assuming you mean Z-poxy epoxy, not finishing resin).

It's hard to beat Titebond for gluing wood to wood. If you need a longer open time, Titebond 3 is good too.

Hot hide glue...Easy and really fast. And it's ridiculus how easy it is to clean.

Sean, another thing to remember is that the zpoxy typically referenced around here is a "finishing" epoxy, not really meant for glueing stuff together.
(...sorry Matt...missed your last line)

thanks for all the replies. I ended up using titebond extend. I has a long open time. I did the top one night, and just finished the back. After taping, I then used the twilltape and wrapped it real tight. Everything went really well.

May I ask a dumb question? Just why exactly is z-poxy finishing resin a poor glue?

I respect that view, but I'm not sure that's a definitive answer to my question. What is the difference between a finishing resin and an epoxy glue?

Finishing resin does not have the strength of an epoxy designed to bond materials together. Another advantage with Titebond or LMI luthiers glue is that is softens with heat making it easy to close up any little gaps that you may have missed during the initial glue up.
