Post subject: | Doofus binding issue... Glue? |
Long story shortened, while "free-hand" routing the binding channel on the back of a build the router base and I both had a major malfunction. The result was a channel that was over depth and slanted inward [from the side to the surface of the top] as well as being scalloped a bit and a couple of chunks out of the back. After several months of letting it sit I am finally back to salvage and completing the build. I have re-routed the channel to "square it up" and the resulting binding scheme is going to be: .064 black [ABS from Stu/Mac] X .25 inner topped by .080 Ivoried outer. There is a step in the routing that will require a fiber B/W/B [3/32 X.080] between the bottom of the ivoried and the side to deal with the "over-depth" issue. Laminating the Black and Ivoried binding before installation would seem to make for difficult bending [total thickness of .145] and glueing so I have planned to install one at a time. 1. Black ABS to the routed channel [.064X.25] 2. BWB fiber to the edge of the side [ 3/32X080] 3. Ivoried to glued to the Black and the [edge] fiber. [.080X.25] I have on hand: LMI binding glue, Duco, acetone, Titebond, LMI white, Hide [hot]. Question is: What glue(s) to use? ABS to wood? Fiber to wood? Ivoried to ABS? Ivoried to fiber? Any suggestion as to which combination of glues I should use or if one of the above will work for all would be Greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike J. |

I seal channels and use CA on all bindings, irrespective of materials. |
