Post subject: | Pinless bridge design |
So once I finish the three electrics I am doing, I plan on doing my first acoustic guitar. I am planing on doing a pinless bridge and have been trying to decide which style to go with (Doolin or Breedlove/Ovation style). Then I came across this, and it really intrigues me. Has anyone tried anything like this? http://kevinmichaelclarkguitars.com/features/pinless-bridge/ |

That seems to be borrowed from Alvarez. |

I haven't tried it, but I understand you'd probablly be reducing bridge weight substancially, which might be interesting. But if there is just a bridge plate under those holes, I'd be worry about them maintining such tension without eventually braking or being somewhat damaged considerably over time. I there is more than just a bridge plate, then I guess that sort of reduces the bridge weight reduction concept. |

That really is an elegant design. I believe, by reading the description below the picture on the website: "....the aluminum reinforced keyways are located at distance to reduce sheer tension and increase down force...." that there is a strip of aluminum under the top. |

Interesting design. The Yairi bridge has pins, and is interesting as well.http://www.yairi.com/gtrsktor/indv_dtl/dcb_info.html |

That makes sense. |

Eiichi Ishikawa in Vancouver does a pinless bridge like this. I first saw one there around 1989. http://www.shuriyaguitarcraft.com/custom.html has a few pictures of his slick rendering. |

do you guys see a need for there to be an aluminum reinforcement under there? Would a normal bridge plate made out of ebony or rosewood work? Or, would it need to be thicker? |

Except for the eyelets, that is the same as the Hana Lima tie-through bridge for ukuleles. I have never heard of one pulling out. Bob ![]() |
