I was carving my braces & leaned too hard on the tonebar side & split my top for a length of about 4" . It is still very snug & you can't see it when you snap it back in place. It seems like thin CA would be so easy, and pva would require more work to get it in the 'entire length of the crack. What's the way to go? I guess I'll patch it too? MM |

Well, I'd try CA first.... Not sure if patching is needed, but it couldn't hurt. You didn't say where the crack was... it might matter. |

the crack is in the lower bout on the bass side about 6.5" from the centre line. If i try thin CA I'm reasonably certain it will hold now but wondering about long term. MM |

Hey Mike; It is true that sometimes, CA will stain the wood a nasty pee yellow. As to longevity of the repair, I fixed 8 or 9 cracks in the top of a Larrivee about 22 years ago. The owner was not concerned about cosmetics, so I gave it a try. After all these years, the top on that guitar is still holding up very well. No new cracks & the old ones show no sign of opening up again. ... For what it's worth... |
