I gotta be the official Kung Fu Panda of guitar building!

You know the scene where Panda makes it to the Palace, and is asked to "show some of his moves"...
When done, the Master blows out the fire on his forehead and says: "There is now a Level Zero"

That's ME right there. That's how I feel anyways.
All I got going is some free wood and a strong desire to learn.

It may take me 2 years and 4-5 sets of wood... but I will finish my guitar.
Thanks for all the help so far.

Like the Panda, it becomes all about practice. If you think it may take 4-5 tries, get that much in cheap wood and practice that many times before you use your guitar wood. Whatever you try, try #10 will come out better then try #1.

I am teaching a middle school woodshop class, and I don't need to preach practice too much. I give the students a practice board for the scroll saw, at the end of the class we look at the first cuts compared to the last cuts, then I remind them of this process and difference in quality that some practice made all year. I was able to get a good supply of scrap from a local cabinet shop, the kids can cut it up with no stress because it will end up in the trash where the wood came from, but the kids usually bring their practice pieces home.

You will do great because you want to, but the learning process involves practice.

I am at a Charter school here in Mount Shasta CA. It is a very part time job, but has been great. I am excited to bring more instrument making to the kids. I tell a bit of our story in the challenge post: viewtopic.php?f=10132&t=35212

Florentin,
I've never seen the film but I think I feel like you also.
I've been making string instruments for about 2 years. I started making fun things for my children and then moved onto guitars and bazookis. When I look at what I'm working on now I have mixed emotions. I can see how things have improved but I'm still so disapointed by many aspects and can't wait to start again to build a better instrument but as you know builds take such a long time (especially if you have a young family) and there are so many things to work on the present build- the dreaded finish, want to do a really niece volute, some neck inlay etc. It's all practice for some time in the future when it all comes together into a great instrument and then you move up to the next level and have the same worries about how to improve to the level above that, ad infinitum until you either die or stop caring.
I quess I could ramble for ages and I'm not really sure where I'm going with this reply but I certainly feel better getting it off my chest.
Good luck man! Keep on going!
