This is a question for those of you who have dealt with Old Standard Wood (www.adirondackspruce.com) What has been your experience in dealing with that supplier, mainly their quality of product and delivery time? I'm mainly looking at their "Excellent" grade and better. Thanks in advance. |

I've used them and I like them. Best adi bracewood I've ever found and the $80 top I got was better than expected. And delivery was prompt. |

They provide excellent wood. Just ask Collings and Gilchrist. It is also where I get my adi. |

I have dealt with David Smith and found him excellant to deal with. He shows pictures of his wood and you can call him and he will look at that piece of wood and tell you if the wood is heavy ,light ,has a good tap tone etc. Good Fellow. Tom |

Really nice and good people. If you want good adi for whatever you can't beat them. Not cheap, but not cheap lumber either. I know the boss uses them a lot and I am planning a drive to get some. |

I'm fortunate enough to live near Dave Smith and also not that far from Carl Barney, who gets some of the best Red Spruce from the Adirondack Mountains that I've ever seen. I have several of both of their tops and find the quality to be excellent. But here's a thought...why go for the expensive tops, when often the less expensive ones are only so because the grain may me slightly irregular in width, or there's maybe a hint of color? They can still be great sounding tops, and color variance actually appeals to some folks. |

I have bought a couple of really cheap (around $30) tops from Dave Smith that were stiff and tapped well, but were slightly off in bookmatch and color. I still think they're going to make great sounding guitars. Also I had an experience with Dave where I bid on a top that was said to fit a parlor. After I won he sent me a message saying it was slightly smaller then a parlor. So he sent me the top I won and a bigger set of better quality! Also he sent me some brace wood (13 dollars) that I was able to resaw into 3 sets of Uke tops. Nothing but good things to say about him! |

I buy all my red spruce and mandolin wood (maple) from Old Standard, I've been very happy with their service. |
