I'm starting my first construction with Malaysian Blackwood. This is a OM design. I have the sides at about .070", but I'm not sure how high to go with the temp and for how long. Will be using standard Fox style bending machine with a single heating blanket and 2 steel slats. Thanks Richard |

I just bent 3 sets of sides and binding with the left overs for 000 12 frets. I don't do the temperture thing, but used same setup as you. Once water on the top slat sizzles and I bend the waist at a slow but steady pace until it is tight. Then turn off the blanket and bend the bouts rather quickly. I bent them at I think .080 or little more. |

GO SLOW, GO HOT. Some pieces of Malaysian Blackwood I've come across were so hard they were like trying to bend steel. They would not bend at any temperature. Do not rush any part of the process. If you have room on your sets, trim them to an 1/8" oversize of your largest dimension needed and use the scraps to do a test and see how its going to behave. |
