This is fun to watch, and a different way to apply shellac. I find it interesting how the fretboard and bridge get glued on at different stages. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=Pk8 ... =endscreen |

Lot of sanding I guess. What I hate from shellac is that is hard to sand (fill the paper like anything else). So I wouldn't see my self the advantages of spreading thick dripping shellac on a guitar. More over, maybe i'm wrong, but: thicker the coats, softer the finish. BUT... I used this technic with EM6000.. waterbased lacquer. Spread thick coats with a brush, then level. Then when I get a perflectly leveled surface without sand-through (400 or 600 grit) (that I keep as thin as possible), I applied last coats with a clean and smooth damp rag, just to fill the sandpaper marks, Then I waited a week, and wet-sanded it with 800 and 1200. Applied few other really light coats and wet sand 1500, then buffed fine and extra-fine. Gave me a very nice mirror gloss, smooth and thin finish whitout any spray gun, whitout any difficulties. I guess that If I could find a way to sand shellac.. I'd do this with shellac also. My 2 cents! Francis |

Well you certainly cannot argue with the results, quite beautiful. I'll brush on the first coat of shellac because it soaks in real good, maybe even brush another on before French Polishing. |
