Has anyone built one himself rather than buy one from Stewmac? are there any plans for this out there? |

I did. It could hardly be simpler. I went with this design because it hangs flat on the wall when I'm not using it. The only real problem I had was the router base. My first attempt was too thick for the bit to extend far enough. I also tried to short-cut it by replacing the doughnut with a couple of beveled cuts on the tablesaw. Worked ok. Last weekend, I remade the base with a turned spacer and thinner bottom. It's much better now. I can post some pictures later today, but they won't any different from the pictures on their site. Get a piece of MDF. Attach the column to it. Shellac and wax the MDF. 8020's ebay store has scrap. Poke around and find pieces that are already cut to size with the holes you need drilled and tapped. The thing looks simple from just looking at it, but I am trying to figure out how to make the actual piece that attaches to the guitar, the part that holds the body and keeps it level. |

Sorry. I got busy, and tomorrow's full too. I'll try and get pics up tomorrow night. My cradle is just a piece of MDF with 4 L shaped pieces glued up from plywood with slots in the vertical and horizontal bits. They slide in and out to squeeze the body snugly. They've got bolts and wing nuts to tighten adjustable support blocks. Mike |

Here are a couple of pictures. I've used several different jigs for binding. This seems to work as well as any of them. Mike |
