Does 0.100" sound appropriate for the bridge plate thickness using maple? I want to minimize weight but of course I want the bridge plate to hold up over time.

Thoughts?

Oh, meant to add it's a 00 body using the Martin short scale.

Another FYI, it's rift sawn grain.....but the grain is straight, not angled. I'll likely angle the pin holes so they won't align on a single grain line.

Another FYI, the maple board I have on-hand I've had since 1994 and it has light flame in places. I don't think the flame would hurt in this application.......thoughts? I like the age of this board so want to use it. Seems the irregular grain would help prevent splitting.

I've been using a slightly oversized (think Somogyi) bridge batch in the neighborhood of .090. I want the patch to be strong but not too stiff overall. You'll be fine at .100 though.

I have returned to using a rather large plate (fits into the X and then back 2 5/8 to 2 3/4) With the larger plate I thin it somewhere from .080 to .090. I have started again using rift sawn coco for plates. Before when using smaller plates from .090 to .100. This depends a lot on the plate, size of guitar etc.

I have a tracing of a 1938 Martin OO and the bridge plate is maple .075 thick.

That's good info CR from that old Martin. Seems 0.100" isn't pushing the edge.......I may have to go thinner! <smile>
